7. The Barrowheath

Region Type

  • Ancient moor / open burial mounds / spectral haunt

Description

Once the resting ground of Albion’s warrior-kings, the Barrowheath is a windswept expanse of grassy ridges and mossy cairns. Stone circles crumble under the weight of time, and half-sunken barrows dot the moor like broken crowns. The dead here do not rest.

Many of the spirits that rise in the Barrowheath carry remnants of memory — regal pride, battlefield rage, or sorrow that never faded. It is said that the kings buried here were bound by ancient oaths, and now their shades guard against any who trespass with greed in their hearts.

Optional Traits

Crown of Dust

At the start of each round, roll a d20. On a 1–3, a Barrow-Wight emerges from the nearest unoccupied barrow mound or ruins and attacks the closest model.

  • If no unoccupied terrain feature is available, the effect is skipped that round.

Grave Authority

All models suffer –1 to Will rolls when within 3” of a barrow mound, unless they are Undead or accompanied by a Necromancer.

  • This represents the oppressive aura of ancient spirits enforcing dominion over the living.
