That harmony is now broken.
A ritual — whether too ambitious, corrupted, or interrupted — fractured the ley lattice. Great stones toppled, groves turned toxic, and once-harmonious spirits were driven to madness. The veil between life and death thinned, leaving Albion scarred and unstable.
Many blame the rise of the Lich Druid, a former Truthsayer who sought to bind the forces of death within himself. Though his campaign of undeath was ended, Albion remains a land of bleeding leylines and restless power — drawing seekers, scavengers, and mystics from across the Old World.
Campaign Concept
This setting merges Frostgrave’s magical mechanics with Mordheim’s warband diversity. Warbands from across the Old World come to Albion in search of power, forbidden knowledge, and survival amid the ruins:
Runestone Fragments
Forbidden Rituals
Cursed Relics
Spiritual Communion
Truthsayer Lore
Themes and Conflict
Albion is not a frozen ruin — it is a living grave. Magic seeps through root and stone. Spirits scream from standing stones. The land itself fights back.
Factions clash not only for power, but for truth — and for survival:
College Mages seek to map and master the disrupted arcane flow.
Chaos cults and necromancers hunger for the unleashed forces.
Remnants of the Truthsayers hide or haunt, guarding what remains.
Nomadic tribes resist the desecration of sacred lands.
Mercenaries and opportunists dig for riches amid tombs and ruins.
Even the land itself becomes an enemy:
Beasts warped by ley exposure
Restless dead from unsealed barrows
Creatures thought only legend, drawn to the bleeding magic of Albion
Antagonists and Protagonists
The Lich Druid: Keeper of the Cracked Circle
Once a revered Truthsayer, the figure now known as the Lich Druid broke from his order during the collapse of Albion’s ley lattice. Desperate to save his homeland, he performed a forbidden ritual — anchoring the dying network within himself by merging soul, stone, and the winds of death.
The ritual succeeded — at a terrible cost. Twisted into an undead fusion of man and magic, the Lich Druid now dwells within the Stone Wards, surrounded by barrow-spirits and rune-bound horrors. His goal is not conquest, but stasis: a cold stillbirth of Albion’s magic where nothing lives and nothing further decays.
While Nagash’s cults claim dominion over death, they regard the Lich Druid as a heretic — a regional anomaly fusing necromancy with natural magic. Others, particularly among the mystics and warbands drawn to Albion, wonder if his methods hint at an alternate path: eternal magic unchained from the Great Necromancer.
The Lich Druid fuels much of Albion’s undead unrest — but he is not the only threat. He is merely the most enduring echo of Albion’s broken soul.
Factions of Albion
Many forces now move through Albion — some to protect, some to exploit, some simply to survive:
Truthsayer’s Circle — Druids protecting what balance remains
Dark Emissaries — Chaos-bound false prophets and manipulators
The Crowborn — Prophetic carrion cult feeding on the dead and the future
Wyrd Sisters — Moonbound seers weaving fate through blood and bone
Nomadic Tribes — Scattered defenders of sacred lands
Collegiate Explorers — Mages and academics mapping Albion’s fractured flows
Mercenaries, treasure-seekers, and opportunists — Ever drawn by gold and forgotten relics
Albion’s story continues to unfold — a land of fractured ley-lines, living magic, and forgotten truths. More details, encounters, and scenarios will be added here as this project evolves.
